An eviction order in Utrecht often leads to acute homelessness. The Municipality of Utrecht is obliged to provide temporary shelter via the Social Support Act (Wmo) and the local homeless policy. Report immediately to the Social Support Desk (LMO) in Utrecht, reachable via 14 030, if you have nowhere else to go. Tenants with children, pregnant persons, or health issues receive priority for priority declarations via the Utrecht priority list for social rental housing. Step 1: report within 24 hours after eviction to the LMO or the Crisis and Information Centre (CIC) at Kanaalweg 83. They assess your situation on site and assign emergency shelter, such as in hotels, B&Bs, or the Salvation Army crisis centre. Costs are reimbursed for a maximum of three months or until you find a new rental home via WoningNet Utrecht or CorporatiePunt. Landlords in Utrecht must sometimes contribute to alternative housing according to the local Housing Ordinance. Note: do not remain in the property after the deadline, otherwise you risk fines of up to €450 per day. Actively search via the Utrecht Housing Exchange or private agents such as Funda te Huur. Example: a Utrecht family with two children received emergency shelter in a municipal hotel immediately after eviction and, via priority, a home from Housing Foundation Portaal within two months. Document everything with photos and correspondence for possible damage claims against the landlord at the Utrecht District Court. Legal assistance is free via the Legal Desk Utrecht (Burgemeester Fockelaan 71) or pro bono lawyers via the Legal Aid Board. This Utrecht safety net, including the Winter Shelter from November to March, prevents homelessness and provides time for recovery.
